The California LGBTQ Health & Human Services Network recognizes and honors the Native Peoples who have stewarded the lands on which we live and work. We pay our respects to their elders, past and present, and acknowledge the enduring presence and contributions of Native Peoples as caretakers of these lands across California and worldwide.
We express our gratitude for the opportunity to gather on the ancestral lands of the Nisenan, Maidu, Patwin, Ohlone, Coast Miwok, Bay Miwok, Tongva, Tataviam, Serrano, Kizh, and Chumash Peoples—lands that have been colonized in what is now Northern and Southern California, where the Network carries out its work. As we continue our journey of unlearning and truth-telling, we are committed to honoring these lands and advocating for Indigenous sovereignty.
To deepen our understanding and support Indigenous movements, we encourage our communities to explore resources such as Land Back, a national initiative focused on building Indigenous power, and Native Land, a digital platform that respects and recognizes the sovereignty of Indigenous nations, their lands, and waters.
